The Wormhole Generator in World of Warcraft's (WoW) latest expansion, Shadowlands, may be the most useful item to date.

Implemented in Patch 9.1, this "toy" functions as the player's personal interdimensional chauffer. It allows players to instantly travel to a "fixed point" within each Shadowlands zone every 15 minutes or so—including both The Maw and Oribos. No longer will players have to suffer the tolls of public aerial transit or attempt to find the path between regions.

Simply pop the Wormhole Generator and off you go! Truly, WoW has transported its players to 2077.

Face the darkness.

Wormhole Generator Shadowlands 9.1

There are a few ways to get the Wormhole Generator. Some require a bit of effort while others require disposable gold. Below, we'll go over the top three methods to add the item to the toy directory.

First—and, perhaps, the easiest—is to just buy it off the Auction House. At the time of writing, a single Wormhole Generator sells for upwards of 6000 gold due to its usefulness and popularity. Many players consider this a worthy fee for a portable portal with unlimited uses, however.

The second method is to simply purchase Shadowlands Engineering on a toon with the Engineering profession. The schematics for the item can be learned immediately afterward, which requires players to have an Arclight Spanner and Blacksmith Hammer at their disposal. They'll also need the following reagents:

  • Wormfed Gear Assembly x3
  • Mortal Coiled Spring x7
  • Handful of Laestrite Bolts x20
  • Elethium Ore x3
  • Solenium Ore x10
  • Oxxein Ore x10
  • Phaedrum Ore x10
  • Sinvyr Ore x10

The final method is to reach Honored reputation status with the Undying Army and then purchase the toy outright.

Unfortunately, like many engineering items in WoW, this item does require the toon to be proficient in the Engineering profession to use. They'll need to learn the base-level Shadowlands Engineering.
