We'll be comparing the Kanto and Alolan variations of the palm tree Pokémon, Exeggutor, in Pokémon: GO.

Exeggutor is one of the more bizarre-looking Gen I Pokémon. As a bipedal palm tree, its three yellow heads are meant to resemble coconuts. This appearance is even stranger when you consider it evolves from Exeggcute, a group of egg-like Pokémon. The creature received a new Alolan form in Pokémon: Sun and Moon which definitely enhanced its already strange form. Bearing an even greater resemblance to a palm tree, the Alolan Exeggutor has an extended neck forming atop its stocky body. The three yellow heads now towering above its Kanto version.

Both regional variations have made their way into Pokémon GO, with a few differences between the two. But which one is better?

Trainers,

In the coming months, we’ll be testing minor gameplay adjustments in certain parts of the world.

Pokemon GO Exeggutor Kanto vs. Alola: Stats

Exeggutor's Kanto and Alola variations possess some slightly different stats:

Kanto Exeggutor

  • Maximum CP: 3408
  • Maximum HP: 216
  • Attack: 233
  • Defense: 149

Alola Exeggutor

  • Maximum CP: 3407
  • Maximum HP: 216
  • Attack: 230
  • Defense: 153

While there isn't a huge difference between the two forms, Alolan Exeggutor has a slightly higher defense stat and only three points less in the Attack stat compared to the Kanto version. From this, the two versions will likely be better suited to different purposes: the Kanto Exeggutor as more of an attacker, while the Alolan version being better at taking the hits. The main differences between the two, however, comes mainly from their type differences.

Kantonian Exeggutor Type

The Kanto version of Exeggutor is a dual grass and psychic-type. This form is resistant to fighting, ground, water, grass, electric, psychic. It is also weak to quite a few types, including: flying, poison, bug, ghost, fire, ice, and dark. Its fast attacks include Bullet Seed, Extrasensory, and Confusion while its charged attacks consist of Psychic, Seed Bomb, and Solar Beam.

Alolan Exeggutor Type

The Alola version of Exeggutor is a dual grass and dragon-type. This form is resistant to ground, water, grass, and electric-types while being weak to flying, poison, bug, ice, dragon, and fairy-types. Its fast attacks include Bullet Seed, and Dragon Tail and its charged attacks consist of Seed Bomb, Dragon Pulse, and Solar Beam.

Pokemon GO Exeggutor Kanto vs. Alola: Which is Better?

The two variations are reasonably similar, but probably best suited to differernt roles. The Kanto Exeggutor boasts a higher attack stat and more resitances, but also has more weaknesses, particularly to some of the game's more common Pokémon. The Alola Exeggutor has a higher defense stat and fewer weaknesses, but also has fewer resistances. This version is also weak to fairy-type Pokemon, which could become a bit of a problem in certain encounters.

Going off of these points, the Kanto version might serve you better out in the field, but likely not by much. The Alolan variant is still a strong pick, however. Ultimately, it comes down to player preference. It's also hard to resist having such a bizarre looking Pokémon, like the Alolan Exeggutor, as part of your team.
