Footprints and fingerprints in Phasmophobia are a couple ways players can detect and diagnose the presence of a specific spirit.

Kinetic Games spared no expense when designing its psychological horror game, Phasmophobia. Four players must work together to uncover evidence of paranormal activity. This can be anything from fingerprints, ghastly writings, footprints, and even a photo of the specter, itself.

Do Footprints Count as Fingerprints in Phasmophobia?

Unfortunately, no. Footprints do not count as Fingerprints in Phasmophobia.

It's unsurprising as to why players may have this misunderstanding with the footprint and fingerprint mechanic in-game. Both are somewhat "physical" traces of a ghost's presence in the real world--an imprint that shows where the ghost as been and the surface it traversed. However, these two instances have different purposes entirely.

Fingerprints can only be uncovered using a UV light on upright surfaces such as walls and furniture. They count as their own separate piece of evidence and exist only to clarify the presence of a spirit in a specific room.

Meanwhile, footprints can only be found by spreading salt on the floor. The salt, itself, is a critical component to unearthing the prints, the direction of movement, and possibly the type of ghost. Wraiths, for example, have an adverse reaction to salt and their interaction with it will be displayed accordingly.

Players can still take pictures of footprints for extra cash. In contrast, fingerprints may be more difficult to photograph.

Phasmophobia is available on PC via Steam for $13.99 USD. It is compatible with most VR systems, but does not require VR to play.
