Trainers in Pokemon Legends: Arceus are wondering just how many Pokemon they can catch in Hisui.

Despite bearing the Pokemon franchise name and branding, Pokemon Legends: Arceus (PLA) is a strikingly different experience from the main series games. Not only does this title send players back in time, it places the focus on Pokemon research rather than strictly battling and “becoming the best.” There are no badges, no leagues, and no routes to follow—just the trainer and the open wilderness.

This can get a bit overwhelming, unsurprisingly, so having a constant to cling to is a good place to start. That constant? Catching all the Pokemon in the region, of course!

Total Number of Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

There are 242 Pokemon to catch and complete entries for in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Some of these are new evolutions such as Wyrdeer and Basculegion. New regional forms will share the same PokeDex number such as Typhlosion and Growlithe.

That’s about half the number trainers could catch in the original Sinnoh-based Pokemon games, Diamond and Pearl—as well as their remakes. In these titles, trainers had access to 493 Pokemon. Such list consisted of all Pokemon discovered at that time ending with Arceus.

It doesn’t appear that PLA is interested in adding in the missing species, either. The “National Dex” isn’t eligible to obtain for reasons likely subject to the time period and lore set within the games After all, the PokeDex is a somewhat recent invention in Hisui.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
