Hades' Hell Mode is one of the difficulty options players can select when creating a new save file. It can't be turned off later, so players have to decide right away whether they're ready to take on the hardest challenges the game has to offer, or if they'd like to defer that challenge for after they've beaten the game once. Here's what you need to know about it.

Hell Mode allows Hades players to start with the Pact of Punishment already enabled. The Pact of Punishment means that Zagreus must face the Underworld with one rank in each of five difficulty modifiers on every run:
- Hard Labor: Each rank makes foes deal 20% more damage
- Lasting Consequences: Each rank makes any sources of health restoration 25% less effective
- Jury Summons: Each rank makes 20% more enemies spawn in standard Encounters
- Calisthenics Program: Each rank gives foes 15% more health
- Personal Liability: Removes the brief invincibility Zagreus normally receives on taking damage
Each of these modifiers provides one extra heat per rank, which means players who take on Hell Mode can potentially earn Infernal Gates that contain greater rewards. Escaping the Underworld at certain Heat thresholds can also unlock Skelly statues.
In Hell Mode, players can raise the ranks of these modifiers, but can't reduce them below 1.
